Importing Blog Posts

I continue to procrastinate. I am now playing around with importing blog posts from my various blogs from past years into Easily Distracted by Shiny Things. So far so good. If you see some weird things hang tight. I have to reformat pictures as I import them.

Procrastination

Ever have those days where you have a ton of stuff to get done, but no real motivation go move your butt from the couch? Today was one of those days. Instead o f dishes, laundry, housework, bills, plants and pets to take care of, etc. I decided to clean up my bookmarks. Remember before Pinterest when you would bookmark cool ideas? I finally went though and opened each bookmark, pinned the neat-o idea I had been saving for years and then deleted the bookmark. Repeat about 150 times. Well that was productive, not. I then proceeded to update the look of my blog, repeat about 50 times until I found something that I liked for today. My son yells at me (not really) about not posting to my blog but then spending hours tweaking how it looks. He is right of course. I hardly write anymore. And blog posts are few and far between. He had an great suggestion of importing posts from various previous blogs into this one so everything is in one spot. How awesome is that idea?! I don't know if I can do it, but it will be fun to try. As for the writing more suggestion .... crickets....its a good idea of course. But will I do it? We shall have to wait to find out. Inspiration seems to be lacking. I've got updates to the house to document but my camera is eating batteries faster than I can take pictures so that will have to wait.

Hollywood Regency Bedroom

I love Hollywood Regency style with its eclectic mix of glamor, shiny surfaces, Asian influences and a touch of mid century modern. At least 1960's Hollywood Regency has a touch of mid century modern. This is a mood board for my bedroom.I hope to get pretty close to how this looks. I already have the chair, the peacocks on the wall, the lampshades, both the nightstand chests and another chest I'm thinking of painting white. My budget for a complete transformation is $500 which includes paint, bedding, new lights, artwork, drapes, accessories and an upholstered headboard. Wish me luck! Of course I'll post before pictures when I'm ready to get started and update pictures throughout the process.

Home Again!

My son came home from college in Savannah Georgia yesterday! I haven't seen him since the beginning of January. I felt so terribly guilty. I hadn't cleaned out his room. See with him gone I've been using his bedroom as a sewing room, office and general store room of things I don't know what to do with or am too lazy to take down the 3.5 flights of stairs into our basement storage room. I've been so sick lately with cold/flu/sinus infections/whatever and have been working and volunteering so much that I just haven' had the time or energy to get his room ready for him. He was a trooper though. He helped me clean it out when he arrived. It took only about 30 minutes to do the work. Which actually made me feel more guilty that I just didn't suck it up and get it done. The bad part is that now the rest of the house is littered with things that don't belong there. I've got some organizational work to do and some projects to finish up. The mess drives me nuts. I really like having things in their place and not all out and about.

Anyway, I'm so happy to have him home until August 25. I have big plans for him to help me around the condo with projects and to visit museums, flea markets and festivals with him. I miss him so much when he is gone. I've gotta work on finding things to do without him because he'll be a Jr. this fall and I don't have much more time with him around the house. I don't know how parents deal when their kids leave home for good. Ugh. I just even hate the thought of it.

Bank of America - Museums on Us

I found out something interesting today.  Bank of America sponsors free museum admission on the first full weekend of the month at 150 participating museums across the country. How cool is that? You just show your Bank of America card and get in. Now Boo it is just for the cardholder, not their family or a guest. However this little program can save you some bucks.

It never hurts to ask

I bought a new rug for the living room several weeks ago. I'll have pictures of it in the room shortly. I have it  rolled up and put it away as my dog was sick and I didn't want to take a chance on the new black and white rug getting gross stuff on it. Even though its polypropylene and should be easy to wash off, I was a little freaked out.

Anyway I received an email to review the rug and happily did so. I then clicked over to the website page to see what the review looked like on line. There I noticed that the rug was now 60% off (I purchased it when it was 30% off). I contacted the online customer service representative and asked about their price match guarantee and if that applies to their own site. After a few minutes of research the customer service representative refunded me $45 or the difference between 30% and 60% off! The rug now cost $89 with free shipping and no sales tax for a 8x10 rug! What a bargain!!

It's still on sale now if you want to get one for yourself at Rugs USA here.  I highly recommend it.

A new blog is born

Ahhh. A new blog. Again. This is the 4th or 5th blog I've started since January 2010. That isn't a long time in our years but its like 7 blogosphere years! I just haven't been able to find the right combination of idea/name/concept to keep me happy for more than a couple of months. Each one was a niche blog that was fun for awhile but my attention wandered and I became bored. They felt limiting in that I didn't think I could easily introduce a different topic into the conversation. So I stopped blogging for the last 5 months or so and I've missed it. And so Easily Distracted By Shiny Things (EDBST) has been born.

For years I've joked with friends that I'm easily distracted by shiny (or pretty, interesting, odd, new) things. I seem to have a bit of a knack for seeking them out and being fascinated by things others miss or just don't care about. Things like finding out what sound a zebra makes (kind of a chimpanzee chirping sound). I would have thought a horse or donkey sound, but no! Not that I'm going to blog about what sound different animals make all the time but it is something I would probably mention. Just because I think it's interesting. I plan to blog about my home and decorating because I love them. I also do crafts every now and then and try new recipes and talk about things like new music I found or what sound a zebra makes. Pretty much whatever catches my attention in the moment. Will you find it interesting? I don't know. I find myself kind of interesting (ha ha) so maybe you will too. If not it's all OK. I am primarily writing for myself and my entertainment. If you find it enjoyable BONUS! If not I'll still keep writing.

And lastly the final reason for a new blog. I excitedly told my family about my last 2 blogs. They signed up for updates. Then I started worrying about what they think. When I first started blogging I actually had one family member call me and tell me something didn't happen the way I wrote about it. I was embarrassed at the time but in hind sight I should have been kinda mad. I'm writing about what I see and think and feel. And if that isn't what you see and think and feel and it upsets you, you are kindly invited to read something other than my blog. I also don't want them thinking things like, "Why is she spending so much time rearranging her china cabinet. That's so stupid. She has XX to do which is so much more important." or "Why is she spending money on a new rug instead of saving for a rainy day.' And believe me my family would actually ask these questions. So to save myself the anxiety of waiting for that phone call I'm just not going to tell them about the blog. It'll be our little secret.

Welcome to the blogging world EDBST!
